Member Profile: Randy Cigel, The Boeing Company
In the first of a series of member profiles, NAFEMS interviews Randy Cigel of The Boeing Company about the organisation's experience of membership and his role within the SDM Working Group.
Name: Randy Cigel
Position: Engineering, Technology & Operations -- Mechanical and Systems Engineering
Time at Boeing: More than a few years…
In your experience, how does Boeing make the most of its NAFEMS membership?I believe Boeing benefits from NAFEMS membership in multiple ways. Large among them is the exposure to the engineering activities, developments, issues and perspectives at an international level -- from engineering practitioners, researchers/academia, and from software vendor participants. NAFEMS conferences have been high quality, as have been the papers presented. NAFEMS technical publications enrich understanding and discussion of a variety of engineering topics.
How long have you, personally, been involved with NAFEMS?
Can you describe your involvement with the Simulation Data Management Working Group (SDMWG)?
My involvement with the Simulation Data Management Working Group has been quite extensive. I am vice chair of the group, assisting the group chair, Laura Michalske (Proctor & Gamble), as needed. I led the sub-team activity that created the 2010 Simulation Data Management survey of NAFEMS members, and the companion report that was published in 2011 for presenting the survey results. I have participated in recent NAFEMS conferences, such as the 2011 World Congress in Boston and the 2010 North American virtual conference, which included participation in a panel discussion on SDM. Currently I am reviewing and providing input to the SDM Value White paper that is in work and targeted for publication in the near future.
In your opinion, what is the next frontier for NAFEMS?
Is there anything else that you would like to share about your NAFEMS experience?
