National Physical Laboratory (NPL) Launches Thermal Modelling Survey
The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) develops national measurement facilities for providing thermo physical property data used inthermal modelling of engineering applications. NPL mathematicians also contribute to standards and best practise in evaluating the sensitive of thermal models to uncertainty in property data.
NPL is currently considering whether a National Competition on Thermal Modelling would be of value to the modelling community. The challenge for the competitors would be to make the most accurate predictions of temperatures and heat fluxes within a complex instrumented ‘structure’ that would be designed and built by engineers within the Thermal Performance Group at NPL. Such a competition could allow the competitors to find out how good they really are at coming up with accurate predictions and the participants could come from engineering companies, modelling software developers and universities.
As a first step towards the competition, NPL have launched a Thermal Modelling Survey to determine how importance of thermal modelling in respondents' day-to-day work. You can complete the survey by following this link:
