(19 July 2007) -- Flomerics has announced that it has received an
unprecedented response to its offer of providing its popular
Engineering Fluid Dynamics (EFD) simulation software for teaching
and research purposes. Due to the large response to the initial
announcement, Flomerics has announced that it will provide all 3
versions of EFD at $380 for a 3-year license to universities and
technology colleges around the world.
The Asian universities now using EFD include: Koichi University of
Technology (Japan), Keio University (Japan), Kogakuin University
(Japan); and KongJu University (South Korea). The European
universities now using EFD include University of Greenwich (UK);
University of Liverpool (UK); three of the leading German
Fachhochschuler (technical colleges) in Berlin, Karlsruhe and
Trier; and Institut Universitaire de Technologie de Poitiers,
France. Also using EFD is the University of Cape Town (South
Africa).
In the United States, North Carolina State University is trialing
EFD and ITT Technical Institute, University of Arkansas, University
of Texas Pan-American, Portland State University, Rochester
Institute of Technology, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Michigan
Technological University, and Lehigh University are considering the
software.
The documentation provided with EFD makes it easy to adopt the
software for teaching. The software comes with a comprehensive user
guide and tutorial exercises that can be used in the classroom or
as self-study material. Some 20 worked examples of standard
problems complete with the theory are included to teach the
principles of fluid dynamics and heat transfer. These can be easily
adapted to include parametric variations and set as exercises for
students.
Flomerics provides EFD simulation software to universities and
colleges through its “EFD for Education” initiative
which aims to ensure that mechanical engineering students and
researchers have access to the latest fluid dynamics software used
in industry. Unlike traditional Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
simulation software, EFD operates inside the mechanical CAD tools
that engineers are familiar with – without any transfer of
data.
The EFD product family provides full-featured general purpose fluid
flow and heat transfer analysis software combining all simulation
steps, starting with reading CAD data, model definition, mesh
generation, solving, post-processing, through to the generation of
result presentations – all within a single software
environment:
· EFD.Pro – fully embedded CFD software within the
Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire environment;
· EFD.V5 – fully embedded CFD software within the
CATIA V5 environment; and
· EFD.Lab – a general purpose CAD-embedded fluid flow
and heat transfer software.
EFD is available for immediate shipment to educational and research
institutions. Interested readers may download their choice of free

is a world-leading developer of engineering simulation software
and services for analysis of fluid flow, heat transfer and
electromagnetic radiation. Flomerics' business model is drastically
different from traditional analysis because its software is
designed to be embedded deeply into the design process and used by
mainstream design engineers, not just by analysis specialists.
