Siemens PLM Software today announced new versions of the complete
Velocity Series portfolio, including Solid Edge software with
Siemens PLM Software made the announcement in conjunction with its annual industry analyst event that begins today in Boston.
Velocity Series is a preconfigured portfolio of digital product design, analysis, manufacturing and data management software for the mid-market. The portfolio was introduced two-and-a-half years ago and since then has achieved consistent growth for Siemens PLM Software.
"Two-and-a-half years ago we were the first to introduce a complete PLM portfolio for the mid-market," said Tony Affuso, chairman and CEO, Siemens PLM Software. "We are extremely proud of its track record and market adoption. Today the portfolio provides one of the highest growth rates in our product line. The commitment to a PLM portfolio that provides [small and midsize businesses (SMBs)] faster deployment, efficient distribution and low total cost of ownership has been critical to our success."
According to Siemens PLM Software, Solid Edge is the computer-aided design (CAD) component of the Velocity Series. The new release is the first version of Solid Edge to incorporate Siemens PLM Software's digital product development technology. Solid Edge with synchronous technology is a feature-based 2D/3D CAD system that combines direct modeling with dimension-driven design. With the increased flexibility of history-free feature-based modeling, Siemens PLM Software said designers will be able to generate more options in less time, improving innovation and quality, while reducing time to market.
In addition to history-free, feature-based modeling, new features include changes to the "Procedural Features" for parameterized edits without an ordered recompute, a "Synchronous Solve" that allows edits regardless of creation order, new "Live Rules" to infer function from existing geometry, and 3D "Driving Dimensions" that allow dimensional changes to completed models.
Siemens PLM Software said its Velocity Series also includes Teamcenter Express, the preconfigured collaborative product data management (cPDM) component, and CAM Express, the NC programming component. Femap is the finite element analysis (FEA) component of the Velocity Series. The company said Solid Edge with synchronous technology, Teamcenter Express V4 and CAM Express V6 will be available next quarter, with Femap following for the following quarter.
