Data Requirements for Analysis Modelling












This book defines the problem and analysis disciplines that are part of the GEM model. It explores the data requirements for generic modelling and simulation of field problems in industry.

The first chapter concentrates on the objectives of the GEM project and attempts to differentiate the generic properties of an industrial system or part (product level) and their representation in analysis tools.

The second chapter identifies the basic requirements of modelling engineering systems from products and identifies the forces of nature that act on those products during their life cycle.

The third chapter describes the application domains of field analysis methods, the physical problems and their mathematical expressions. Examples of model reduction are envisaged, in going from the physical object and it’s behaviour under external loadings, to the discretized representation and the mathematical operators in analysis.

The fourth chapter classifies the types of analysis methods (discretization, numerical algorithms), which are widely used in industry to determine the effects of the forces of nature on a product during its life cycle.

The fifth chapter categorises the data requirement of different analysis methods in a generic analysis modelling scenario.

The sixth chapter then surveys thirty different analysis systems covering finite element, finite different, boundary element, controlled volume, transmission line and ray tracing techniques to identify the common data requirements of those systems.

The seventh chapter then draws conclusions from the survey and makes recommendations of where to go from here.
