The main aim of this book is to provide readers with a simple
introduction to the BE method, as an alternative technique to the
FE method, without resorting to complex mathematical theory and
jargon. Throughout the booklet, emphasis will be placed on the
physical significance of the BE theory rather than its mathematical
details. The coverage of the BE method in this booklet is limited
to linear static analysis, with a brief introduction to non-linear
problems. Sufficient references are given to enable readers to seek
further details of BE formulations.
This booklet is aimed at readers who are reasonably familiar with
the FE method and its application to engineering problems. It is
assumed that the reader is a graduate in any engineering
discipline, applied mathematics or physics with no previous
knowledge of the mathematical foundation of BE methods.
