Research
Primary research is the mathematical modelling of metallic
materials. This involves the phenomenological characterisation of
sheet metals coupled with the development of yield criteria and
their evolution during forming operations.
Findings in this area are used in the optimisation of stretch
forming and flexforming processes for the aerospace industry. The
insights gained in material modelling are used to optimise forming
process kinematics and tooling by employing both analytical and
finite element models.
In addition to optimisation of current forming processes, research
also includes development of new flexible/toolless metal forming
processes.
