Publications
A key activity of the geotechnical committee is to produce best practice and guidance documents on the application of numerical methods to geotechnical engineering.
Call for Authors
The committee is currently looking for authors to develop documentation covering a number of subjects, including:
- Input parameters for common constitutive models
- Reasons for carrying out geotechnical FEA, illustrated through case studies
- Guidelines on meshing and boundary conditions
- Benchmarking
Publications are aimed at graduates with at least one year;s experience.
The first of these is an area which will be tackled as a priority. This should answer a number of questions, including:
- How to get from site investigations to parameters for an appropriate consitutive model
- How should engineers handle the problem of a lack of site investigation data?
- What type of site investigations are needed?
- How can properties be checked and validated?
Each publications is expected to be between 60 and 100 pages long.
Existing Material
NAFEMS is keen to avoid duplication of effort and recognises that there are many publications produced by other organisations that contain a wealth of useful material. Over a period of time, the Geotechnical Committee intends to develop a list of recommended texts, and to provide a short review of what they contain.
