Overview

SimBest is an exciting and unique project being funded by Innovate UK to gain insights into the use of simulation/modelling within industry and the current research activities of academics.

The work, undertaken jointly by KTN, NAFEMS and GE/Alstom, is now nearing completion.

The project has worked with experts who have interviewed senior personnel from over one hundred world-class companies and universities from across the UK. The project findings will be revealed for the first time at this meeting.

Background

The use of modelling and simulation tools is increasing. Many UK companies are gaining a competitive advantage from the reduction in product design cycle times and costs, and the improvements in design and performance, that virtual engineered products can achieve. This event will provide a unique opportunity to learn from leading companies and institutions.

The event will address difficult questions, such as:

  • What is the future for engineering analysis and simulation?
  • What are the current UK best practices?
  • Which industries are leading the way?
  • How can I benchmark my company’s use of simulation?
  • What is the state of the art in research relating to engineering modelling and simulation?

Results will be shared based upon project findings in a diverse range of industry sectors:

  • Energy
  • Automotive
  • Built environment
  • Health
  • Aerospace
  • Process
  • Electronics

And across a broad range of technical topics:

  • Material technologies
  • Coupled/multi-physics simulations
  • Multi-scale modelling
  • Optimization
  • High Performance Computing (HPC)
  • Verification and Validation (V&V)
  • Uncertainty Quantification (UQ)
  • Simulation Process and Data Management (SPDM)
