NAFEMS is the international Association for the Engineering Modelling, Analysis and Simulation Community. It is a not-for-profit membership organization which was established in 1983. Today, over 1,500 organisations from around the world belong to NAFEMS. The association is supported by a small team of staff, headquartered in the UK, along with staff representatives in various other countries.
NAFEMS runs various committees formed of technical experts who volunteer their time. The staff work with them to generate best practice guidance, and run training courses, conferences, and various other events..
In recent times, the Americas has consistently been the region of largest growth for NAFEMS. The board of directors is keen for this growth to continue, and for it to be further accelerated. A vacancy has arisen for an individual to drive this initiative, growing the membership and the NAFEMS revenue in the Americas.
Reporting to the CEO in the UK, this position provides the opportunity to take responsibility for the fastest growing region for NAFEMS, building and executing a strategy to continue that growth and developing the NAFEMS team in the US. You will be the face of NAFEMS in America, developing relationships with key members as well as the engineering simulation software providers and other stakeholders. As part of the NAFEMS leadership team, you will also be involved in the overall development of NAFEMS, providing an American perspective and input.
This position is open to any work location within the US.
Develop and Execute a Growth Strategy. Accelerate the growth of the NAFEMS membership in the Americas (primarily the USA) by developing a strategy to attract new members and improve the retention of existing ones. Create and execute a business plan aligned with this strategy and with the values and vision of the overall NAFEMS organization. This will require growing existing revenue streams (membership, events, and training) as well as developing new activities and associated revenue.
Build Awareness of NAFEMS. Increase the awareness of NAFEMS by engineering analysts and managers in member and non-member organizations. Ensure that the value of NAFEMS membership is clearly defined and communicated to an American audience. Build strong relationships with major industrial companies that will form the basis for long-term collaborations. Collaborate with thought leaders, industry analysts and other stakeholders in the engineering simulation software ecosystem. Drive the business by being an active and visible presence within relevant industry forums.
Lead NAFEMS Americas. Manage and develop a small team of sales and support staff in the US and work closely with other members of the NAFEMS team, particularly in the UK headquarters, that will help deliver and coordinate NAFEMS activities in the Americas.
Manage NAFEMS Activities in the Americas. Manage marketing campaigns and other sales strategies, as well as overseeing the organization and promotion of NAFEMS events and other activities in the Americas. Maintain up-to-date market information to identify new customer needs and justify new product initiatives.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and a successful track record of building and maintaining strong relationships ranging from senior level executives to technical specialists. You will be a self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision as part of a multi-national team – a team player with determination to always get the job done.
Experience running a small organization with profit and loss responsibility would be ideal. Knowledge of the engineering simulation marketplace, other engineering associations, and managing events is a plus, but more important is the ability and desire to learn. A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business or marketing is also beneficial as is some knowledge of engineering simulation software, such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) or Computational Electromagnetics.
