Pressure contours during Fontral impact

Learn about the advances of Engineering simulation to understand concussion

Date: Thursday 2nd February, 2017
Time: 04:00 pm GMT

The X-Patch developed by Bio-Systems, Seattle, USA measures the linear and rotational accelerations sustained during a head impact. The objective of this study is to use the data provided by the X-Patch sensors as an input to a finite element model (GHBMC model, running on LS-Dyna) to predict the brain regions with elevated pressure and strain during a head impact. The X-Patch data was acquired during laboratory testing, using a Hybrid III dummy, and field data. The results of the simulation model will compare the location and magnitude of pressures and strains within the brain to publish injury criteria.
