Most of the time, product development is complete only when an optimized product is created, but there are many differences between optimization and “robust design optimization.” Optimization of a design depends on given specific inputs, but if the inputs change the design fails. A robust design experiences no change in performance when inputs are changed or perturbations occur. Robust design optimization in this sense refers to designing products so that they are insensitive to variation.
