Vibration Analysis, Monitoring and Assessment

This workshop is aimed at engineers who are concerned with vibration or structural dynamics, and who would like to characterise vibrating loads and/or structural response to vibration.
It is assumed that attendees have a general understanding of vibration, from either theory or from test.
Workshop topics will include:
- A general refresher of basic frequency analysis
- Characterising vibration levels; power spectral density and amplitude spectra (frequency resolution, buffers and windows)
- Characterising time-varying and speed-varying vibration; spectrogram, waterfall and Campbell plots
- Characterising shock and peak vibration levels
- Characterising structural response; the frequency response function and the importance of damping
- Using frequency filters and weighting functions
- Applications for structural health monitoring, rotating machinery, fatigue of pipelines, human response to vibration
- A brief demonstration using nCode GlyphWorks software with an opportunity to try the software out first hand
The workshop is independent and does not rely on concepts introduced in other workshops.
