Jumpstart Early Optronics Simulation with Comet/Optronics

Developing complex optronics (also known as electro-optical) systems is a multi-disciplinary challenge, requiring intense collaboration between mechanical and optical engineers as well as structural and optical analysts. The application of a concurrent, team engineering approach can help significantly. Yet, even the most well-structured and interactive teams have often been frustrated with the continuous need to build and maintain interfaces and linkages between different software systems. Keeping everyone's models in synch with each other to maintain design integrity has been a major bottleneck and a drain on productivity.

Until now.

Now you can easily and quickly conduct optronics simulations - integrating CAD, CAE, thermal, and optics applications - with full associativity in a single user environment. What's more, you can conduct these analyses early in the product development process, when simulation can have the greatest impact on product design and quality. Comet/Optronics enables you to study the impact of radiation, temperature, shock and vibration, and more on photonic integrated circuits.

Comet/Optronics enables you to work with your choice of solid modeling and simulation applications from multiple vendors - without translations and without having to build and maintain subroutines and linkages to pass data back and forth between systems. These tedious, time-consuming, and error-prone activities are eliminated with Comet/Optronics. You'll work with a single model in a single environment.

For example, your work group may include an optical engineer running Code V, a mechanical engineer running SolidWorks, a thermal engineer running Thermal Desktop, a structural analyst running MSC.Nastran, and an optical analyst running PHOCAS. This is a disparate group of software environments from a variety of different vendors. Even if you have expert users for each of these systems, valuable time is wasted moving data back and forth, creating and recreating models for each simulation and iteration. It's not only a manual, error-prone process, it also limits the use and impact of product simulation.

With Comet/Optronics, you only need to build and maintain a single project, which streamlines your process and eliminates errors. For example, changes made to the model in the SolidWorks CAD mode are fully associative to the MSC.Nastran analysis model - and vice versa. You can even automate simulation tasks and capture procedures and best practices, empowering a designer (instead of an expert analyst) to run analyses.

Comet/Optronics provides full bi-directional association between parametric CAD models (e.g., in Pro/ENGINEER) and all the underlying engineering data required for simulating that model. This not only saves your engineers time they would otherwise spend manually re-applying all the engineering data each time changes are made to the model, it frees them up to explore the design space much more thoroughly, even when multiple physics codes are required for each iteration of the design.

The result is better designs.
