As the only independent, international conference dedicated to the technology, the World Congress is a truly unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of simulation for three days with hundreds of your peers and colleagues. The presentations in the agenda are of the highest quality, and with our focus on ensuring all papers have a technical focus minus excessive sales content, there is no better way to ensure you are up to date with industry best practice and future directions.
This issue of benchmark also brings you an update on our “benchmark challenge”, which has been running since October. As well as challenge 3, we are also pleased to be publishing the solution to the first challenge on page 26. An excellent read on a topic which has seen many readers engage with us in a way we have not previously seen. Remember, all submissions are considered by the challenge team, and we will be awarding prizes periodically to correct solutions. Well worth getting involved!
On page 10 we have an interesting summary of the recent NAFEMS survey on “Computing Platforms for Engineering Simulation”. The main motivation for the survey was to find out to what extent the CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering) community is making use of HPC (High Performance Computing), the Cloud and other advanced computing platforms for engineering simulation. The results make interesting reading, and are a valuable addition to the knowledge in this area.
Recently, NAFEMS has been running a focus on simulation in the oil and gas industry, including a free webinar, downloads, two seminars being held in Texas and Aberdeen, and a tie-up with iMechE on one of their own industry specific seminars. This issue of benchmark includes an article on “Flammability Risks through Dispersion Modelling” from MMI Engineering, who will also be presenting on a similar topic at our Aberdeen seminar later this month. Details of our activities in this area can be found at nafems.org. We hope you enjoy this issue of benchmark, and we hope to see you in San Diego.
