François Hemez has been a technical staff member at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) since 2018. Prior to joining LLNL, he was at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) for 21 years. François earned a Ph.D. in aerospace engineering from the University of Colorado in 1993 and graduated from Ecole Centrale Paris, France, in 1989. At LANL, François spent seven years in the engineering division, leading the Validation Methods team for one of those years. He then joined the computational physics division, where he managed several projects of the Advanced Scientific Computing program for nuclear weapon design and analysis.

François currently supports simulation, data science and uncertainty quantification efforts applied to nuclear non-proliferation and counter-terrorism at LLNL. His work interests also involve the development of technology and analysis for robust design and decision-making. François has authored 424 technical publications and reports, including 47 peer-reviewed book chapters and manuscripts. He has also given 162 invited lectures, including nine international keynotes, and taught 23 short courses.
