The release of Open AI’s chatbot ChatGPT in November 2022 was a watershed moment in the AI revolution, raising new possibilities with its natural language processing. One early example is the way NVIDIA incorporated ChatGPT into NVIDIA Omniverse’s UI, allowing the use of natural language prompts for scene building. This may be a harbinger to radically different UIs for design and simulation applications.

In this premiere roundtable discussion from Revolution in Simulation and Desktop Engineering (DE 24/7), we explore, with our panel of experts from industry and end-user companies, three specific areas where we believe AI and Machine Learning are expected to usher in radical changes:

How AI/ML can make sophisticated simulation programs more accessible with its natural language processing, bypassing the menus and parameter-centric dialog boxes required to set up standard and complicated simulations. Can this be the missing link that democratizes the use of simulation by non-experts?
How it can speed up simulation jobs and cut costs by analyzing past simulations to narrow down the calculations to a small set of parameters that affects the design’s performance the most. Would this be akin to simulation experts guiding the design towards a better one or even to optimality?
How it can improve simulation accuracy and turnaround time by leveraging pattern recognition to identify repetitions in commonly executed simulations on families of products.

Our experts will illustrate their ideas with practical, real-world examples of the use of AI and Machine Learning to improve the simulation process while also highlighting the potential pitfalls of this approach – as with most human endeavors, there’s no free lunch!
