Software budgets and functional capability are not the greatest roadblocks to getting more value from digital simulation and analysis. Instead the limiting factors are schedule – not enough time to do all the analysis you want – and too few skilled professionals with the knowledge of how to use simulation to drive design decisions.

Bruce Jenkins from Spar Point Research will share his firm’s investigations of how leading manufacturers are working to overcome these constraints through simulation process management – tools and techniques to manage simulation data, automate work processes, and re-use knowledge. He’ll also review best practices for qualifying solution providers – balancing domain expertise in digital simulation against technical and market strength in data/process management, preferably both at the workgroup/user level and across the enterprise.

UGS will then review how the new capabilities for simulation data and process management built on the Teamcenter PLM platform give product development engineers a higher level of confidence that they’re always using the right inputs for their performance analyses; improve engineering management’s decision-making processes by aligning all enterprise activities around the latest simulation models and results, and leverage knowledge capture and re-use across product platforms throughout the lifecycle in order to have simulation results available in time to impact key new product design decisions.

About the Presenters

Bruce JenkinsBruce Jenkins, President of Research and cofounder of Spar Point Research LLC, has more than 20 years’ experience in technology business analysis. He has authored over 500 articles and studies on engineering and manufacturing technologies and their business impact, including the white-paper series “Best Practices for Implementing Digital Simulation and Analysis” and “Simulation Data Management: Rationalizing the Decision.” Jenkins has consulted to automotive, aerospace, industrial equipment and other manufacturers on evaluating and selecting solutions and providers, and has advised leading software and hardware providers on competitive positioning and new market opportunities. Spar Point Research LLC is a research firm founded in 2003 by Jenkins and Tom Greaves to investigate new technologies that improve the productivity, quality and safety of work processes for creating, modifying and managing engineered products and constructed assets.

 

Ravi Shankar is a Senior Ravi ShankarMarketing Manager at Siemens UGS PLM Software. He has a strong background in Digital Simulation with specific experience in the design and application of CAE, multi-body dynamics, and multi-run simulation tools to enhance product development. His career has included stints as a consultant at Ford Motor Company, where he received a Quality Award, and several years in senior management roles with software vendors Mechanical Dynamics and MSC Software. Ravi’s educational experience includes engineering degrees from IIT Delhi and Duke University, a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University, and an MBA from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan
