Fundamentals of Effective FMEAs with Carl S. Carlson

Carl S. Carlson, Senior Reliability Engineer for ReliaSoft Corporation

As a powerful reliability tool, FMEA has the potential to reduce product design and manufacturing risk in a cost effective manner. However, to help achieve safe and trouble-free products and processes, Design for Reliability tools such as FMEA must be applied correctly.

Many companies have reported outstanding successes in their FMEA implementation, with the technique making a valuable contribution towards shorter product development times while meeting the challenges of tighter budgets and intense global competition. Yet research has also shown that FMEA does not always live up to its potential and companies have not achieved the results they were hoping for.

Wilde Analysis, a leading UK reliability consultancy, is hosting a 1 day seminar on 17th October in Aberdeen to provide guidance on how to make the most of FMEA. Presented by Carl S. Carson, an internationally renowned expert, this event will help companies understand the fundamental concepts behind these methods and learn how to achieve high quality results.

As Senior Reliability Engineer for ReliaSoft Corporation, Carl has 20 years’ experience in reliability engineering and management positions at General Motors, most recently Senior Manager for the Advanced Reliability Group. His responsibilities have included Design FMEAs for North American operations, developing and implementing advanced reliability methods to achieve/demonstrate reliability requirements and managing teams of reliability engineers. Carl has chaired technical sessions for the Reliability Track of the Annual SAE Reliability, Maintainability, Supportability and Logistics (RMSL) Symposium, was a four-year member of the Reliability and Maintainability Symposium (RAMS) Advisory Board and served for five years as Vice Chair for the SAE’s G-11 Reliability Division.
