CFD explained for structural analysts.

This course aims to introduce the essential principles of fluid dynamics, important flow phenomena, and basics of CFD process to structural engineers and how Computational Fluid Dynamics can be beneficial for their multidisciplinary problems. The material includes simple and practical examples and case studies.

Course Program

Session 1

  • Review of loads and boundary condition calculation in structural analysis
  • Definitions and governing principles of fluid dynamics
  • How CFD works
  • Flow Types:
    • Steady / transient flows
    • Viscous / inviscid flows
    • Laminar / turbulent flows
    • Compressible / incompressible flows

Session 2

  • Concept: Boundary layer
  • Concept: Pressure loss & recovery
  • Concept: Flow separation
  • Concept: Shocks
  • Flow Types: Multiphase flows
  • Heat transfer
  • Turbulence
  • Structural and CFD simulation Coupling

Who Should Attend?

Structural engineers, designers, and analysts aiming to incorporate CFD into their everyday practice.

Structural engineers not directly using Computational Fluid Dynamics, who need to work with or support CFD analysts will also benefit greatly from this course.
