Simulation of Powder Bed Fusion

Simulation of Powder Bed Fusion

Sensitivity Analysis of the Inherent Strain Approach for the Buckling of a Thin Structure

Thursday, 20 November 2025 | Online

15:00 (London) | 16:00 (Berlin)
07:00 (Los Angeles) | 10:00 (New York)

The October 2024 issue of NAFEMS Benchmark Magazine features a benchmark example that compares experimental measurements and numerical simulations of a powder bed fusion (PBF) thin structure.

Using the inherent strain approach on the same benchmark component, TWI have systematically examined the influence of mesh refinement, element types, boundary conditions, and material and geometry assumptions. Their results will give attendees a unique insight into the work, and may change the way you approach your PBF simulations.

This exclusive NAFEMS webinar features the simulation engineers who carried out much of the work, presenting their findings clearly through comparison tables and visual contour plots.

The results will help you decide;

  • Which numerical parameters actually matter in simulations like these?
  • Where can I safely simplify my model?
  • What's the trade-off between computational cost and model fidelity?

Who should attend?

Whether you're refining your current modelling strategy or establishing best practices for your team, this webinar offers evidence-based insights drawn from rigorous analysis of a standardised benchmark case.
