Ansys simulation software instrumental in Oracle Red Bull Racing’s F1 success


Since 2008, Oracle Red Bull Racing has been an Ansys Innovation partner, using Ansys best-in-class simulation solutions to improve on-track performance. The regulation changes for the 2022 season had a huge effect on vehicle aerodynamics, so the racing team utilized Ansys simulation software to better understand the airflow around the newly designed car. Red Bull subsequently used this data to make changes to its Formula 1 cars to improve aerodynamic performance. Such changes included using Ansys simulation software and computational fluid dynamics to develop componentry and engine cooling intakes. Materials data management and optimization were made possible by using Ansys Granta MI in addition to Ansys LS-DYNA for virtual impact testing.

Red Bull went on to win the 2022 Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship with Max Verstappen and, more recently, the Formula 1 World Constructors’ Championship on October 23.
