Abstract

Composite structures are gaining popularity in the aerospace industry because of their low weight to strength ratio and better corrosion protection. Bell have used composite to design major structural components for the clean sheet design of Bell 525 Relentless helicopter. Composite structures were optimized to provide lightest design while maintaining static, fatigue and stiffness requirements. This presentation will demonstrate how optimization technology can be used at different stages of the development cycle.
