Title: Emerging role of computational modeling and simulation for enhanced device-enabled drug delivery
Abstract: The integration of computational modeling and simulation (CM&S) plays an increasingly key role in the development of devices and combination products within the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. These approaches can be applied in several impactful ways, including root- cause analysis of failure modes observed during various stages of product development such as assembly, fill-finish processes, and packaging, as well as predictive modeling capabilities, such as digital twin platforms for drug-device interactions. These capabilities enable virtual testing of device and formulation configurations, reducing the need for extensive physical testing, as well as supporting the development of new and innovative technologies, which ultimately enhance device-enabled drug delivery.
Bio:Dr. Sahab Babaee is Associate Director of Targeted Delivery and Device Technology Development & Innovation within the Strategy and Innovation team at Sanofi. He leads a range of research, exploratory, and development initiatives in collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders. His work spans multiple therapeutic areas and routes of administration, including technologies from parenteral delivery devices and gastrointestinal (GI) systems to ophthalmic gene delivery platforms. Previously, Sahab was a Research Scientist in the laboratory of Professor Robert Langer at MIT and a Research Fellow at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School. His work has resulted in over 34 publications in high-impact journals and 16 patent applications. Sahab holds a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Mechanical Engineering from Harvard University.
