If you look at the back of the quarter from New Hampshire, you will see a picture of the Old Man of the Mountain. Prior to its collapse in 1997, this naturally occurring rock formation had once depicted the profile of a man’s face when viewed from a certain perspective on the ground. Signs directing you to a specific viewing area were placed along the local highways. While standing at one of the designated viewing areas you could see the profile (pictured on the right). If you were standing anywhere other than one of the designated viewing areas, the profile was lost to you and looked like any other mountain; The proper meaning requires the right perspective.
