Efficient and Accurate Broadband FEM-Based Vibro-Acoustics

Using the Finite Element Method (FEM) to solve the Helmholtz equation and predict acoustic phenomena has become common across various industries. However, in FEM, the mesh size typically becomes very large when solving acoustic and vibro-acoustic problems up to high frequencies, leading to prohibitively long simulation times. In this paper, two key innovative technologies are introduced to reduce efforts from users for meshing and pre-processing, and to speed up acoustic simulations: FEM Adaptive Order (FEMAO) and Automatically Matched Layer (AML). Acoustic specialists, but also finite element analysts, can leverage the new technology to simulate a broader range of acoustic problems comfortably. These key technologies are briefly described in this paper and a selection of applications is presented.
