Customised Optimization for Practical Problem Solving

NAFEMS Optimisation Special Interest Group - 5th Meeting

Customized Optimization for Practical Problem Solving

19th April 2018 at 16:00 UK time

Upcoming Meeting

On the 19th of April Professor Kalyanmoy Deb of Michigan State University will be presenting on the topic of Customized Optimization for Practical Problem Solving.

Abstract: Customized Optimization for Practical Problem Solving

Practitioners are often reluctant in using a formal optimization method for routine applications, mainly due to the general perception of requiring a large computational time and ending up with a specialized and often "brittle" solution. Optimization methods have come a long way and are made flexible to handle various practicalities including reduction of solution time, search for robust and reliable solutions, and discover useful knowledge understanding intricacies of the problem. In this talk, we shall lay out some of the new advances in optimization field, such as multi-criterion optimization, surrogate-assisted optimization, innovative knowledge discovery, etc., and demonstrate their usefulness on a number of industrial case studies.

About the NAFEMS Optimisation Special Interest Group

The Optimisation Working Group has formed a Special Interest Group (SIG) in order to help disseminate best practice and encourage the adoption of optimisation methods and technology. To participate in the Optimisation SIG you do not have to be an expert in this technical area. The Optimisation SIG is for NAFEMS members who are interested in expanding their capabilities in the optimisation technical area.

The Optimisation Special Interest Group is open to all NAFEMS members with an interest in Optimisation. Non-NAFEMS members are invited to attend one event of their choice. Attendance of more than one event is reserved as a benefit for NAFEMS members.

To receive notifications on upcoming Optimisation Special Interest Group Meetings, to view past SIG presentations and to find out more about Optimisation at NAFEMS please use the contact forms at at the Optimisation SIG web page.
