Fatigue Simulation 2027: Reliable Predictions in a Changing World

Fatigue Simulation 2027:

Reliable Predictions in a Changing World : Uncertainty, validation, and next generation methods

Wednesday, 29th September 2027

When physical testing cannot replicate every operational scenario, fatigue and integrity simulation often have to bear the weight of informing critical engineering decisions. This is true across all engineering sectors, but even more so in high-stakes environments. Establishing robust verification and validation methods and calibration frameworks is essential for improving confidence in fatigue-life predictions. At the core of this challenge is credibility.

NAFEMS Fatigue Simulation Seminar 2027 will be a UK-based symposium focused on credible, decision-grade fatigue prediction for modern engineering challenges. The event aims to bring together simulation engineers, researchers, and industry practitioners to share practical insights, real-world case studies, lessons learned, and emerging methods that improve confidence in fatigue simulations.

Planned scope and themes include:

  • Verification, Validation and  Test Correlation: Practical correlation strategies, accelerated testing, and model qualification methods
  • Uncertainty and Variability: Probabilistic fatigue methods, reliability arguments, and decision making under variability
  • AI/ML and Data-driven Approaches: Improving workflow efficiency and predictive capability
  • Vibration and Spectral Fatigue: mission synthesis, shaker testing, and test tailoring
  • Joints, Interfaces, and Defect Assessment:  welds, bonds, hybrid joints, fixtures, dissimilar material interfaces, and defect assessment
  • Emerging Materials: Durability assessments for polymers, composites, and additively manufactured materials
  • Sector Spotlights and High-stakes Environments:  Focusing on challenges within automotive/EV, aerospace, power generation, and operational extremes such as those in nuclear fusion applications..

We will be looking to address the simple but critical question:
How do we build confidence in fatigue simulation results when the stakes are high?

If you work in fatigue simulation in a high-stakes environment and are interested in presenting at the seminar, get in touch - jo.potts@nafems.org.
