In this article, we look at how 3D Thermal CFD simulation can be used early in the design process at the conceptual stage to try out various engineering concepts, balance conflicting requirements, and explore the available design space. This approach allows for more optimization earlier. Using a heatsink design as an example, we walk through a couple of ways to optimize its design to meet a quantified design goal.
