Guidelines for Validation of Engineering Simulations

NAFEMS Publication by J-F Imbert, O. Windlund, A. Karl and C. Roger, NAFEMS Member Download

Simulation is now central to industrial decision-making, but its credibility depends on robust verification, validation, and uncertainty quantification processes. This book addresses the particular challenges of validation, exploring the diverse range of validation referents and methods needed in practice. By introducing the concepts of a spectrum of validation approaches and rigour attributes, it provides practical guidance to help practitioners strengthen the credibility of their simulation results.

Engineering Simulation Quality Management Standard

NAFEMS Publication by J. Smith, e-Library download

This NAFEMS Engineering Simulation Quality Management Standard (ESQMS) relates to ISO 9001 for quality management of engineering simulation used in support of assessments of engineered systems. This standard applies to all methods of engineering simulation computation, from simple hand-calculations to advanced computational calculations.

This document is intended to interpret quality standard ISO 9001:2015 in the particular context of the engineering simulation process. Accordingly, its structure is aligned with that of ISO 9001:2015. It supplements but does not vary ISO 9001.

Verification & Validation in Engineering Simulation

A Virtual Clasroom course by NAFEMS

Engineering simulation has become a cornerstone of industrial innovation, underpinning critical decisions in product design, qualification, and certification. As reliance on simulation grows, so too does the demand for rigorous verification, validation, and uncertainty quantification (VVUQ) to ensure results are credible and fit for purpose. This Master Class equips participants with the knowledge, tools, and best practices needed to strengthen simulation credibility and manage the associated risks with confidence.
