The following was compiled by members of the Systems Modeling & Simulation Working Group to provide the model-based systems engineering community with a common set of shared terms and definitions.
|Process||Set of interrelated or interacting activities which transforms inputs into outputs.||ISO 9000|
|Process Model||Model that defines the functional decomposition and the flow of inputs and outputs for a system.||Modeling & Simulation Coordination Office|
|Project||An endeavor with start and finish criteria undertaken to create a product or service in accordance with specified resources and requirements.||ISO/IEC 2008|
|Project Infrastructure Needs||Infrastructure needs, including commitments to external stakeholders, derived from and requiring coordination with the organization.||INCOSE|
|Requirement||A statement that identifies a system, product or process characteristic or constraint, which is unambiguous, clear, unique, consistent, stand?alone (not grouped), and verifiable, and is deemed necessary for stakeholder acceptability.||INCOSE|
|Requirements Engineering||Subset of systems engineering concerned with discovering, developing, analyzing, validating, communicating and managing requirements.||ISO/IEC 2010|
|Risk Management||An organized means of identifying and measuring risk (risk assessment) and developing, selecting, and managing options (risk analysis) for resolving (risk handling) these risks.||ISO/IEC/IEEE 2010|
