  1. Enabling Democratization By Engineers, For Engineers

This presentation was made at CAASE18, The Conference on Advancing Analysis & Simulation in Engineering. CAASE18 brought together the leading visionaries, developers, and practitioners of CAE-related technologies in an open forum, to share experiences, discuss relevant trends, discover common themes, and explore future issues. Resource Abstract There is increasing recognition of the value of democratizing the use of engineering software into the hands of more users. The vision for achieving this next step in the use of CAE tools has many aspects and projected benefits. Companies want to enable more engineers to be able to perform sophisticated simulations. This requires easy to use apps that...more

  2. aiolas | AI-Powered Direct Question Search

Just ask. Popular Questions What industry has had the most success deploying SDM? What is the difference between an engineering simulation model and a digital twin? What is an ill-conditioned matrix? How is CFD used in F1 motor-racing? More Example Questions Compare and contrast the arc-length and newton-raphson methods How can you calculate the fatigue life of a weld using FEA? In what industries is multibody simulation most commonly used? What is aiolas? aiolas is an ai-powered direct question search. It has indexed the entire NAFEMS resource centre, so you could say it knows everything that has ever been produced by NAFEMS, or at any NAFEMS event. You can ask...more

  3. Enabling Democratization By Engineers, For Engineers

This presentation was made at NAFEMS Americas Seminar "Engineering Analysis & Simulation in the Automotive Industry: Creating the Next Generation Vehicle Accurate Modelling for Tomorrow's Technologies". The automotive engineering community is now confronting the largest technology transformation since its inception. This includes the electrification of powertrains for more efficient consumption and cleaner emissions, the reinvention of the battery with fast wireless charging capabilities and finally the advent of a fully autonomous vehicle. Compounding to these technology changes, the automotive companies design verification process is moving away from a major reliance on physical testing to...more

  4. Simulation

    6. Simulation Input Data The final major section of the course brings together all the formerly covered information to show how it can be applied to a forming simulation model; as well as material data, other information required to describe the tooling and process are explained as well as certain numerical parameters for the relevant solver. Solvers The different solver methods are presented, including one-step and both explicit and implicit incremental approaches, noting the pros and cons of each. Example Model The final stage is to pull everything together with a simple simulation model of the Forming Limit Test. Results The results of the FLC test model are then presented, starting...more

  5. Practical Implementation of Digital Twins for Today and Tomorrow

NAFEMS Americas hosted its biennial regional conference, formerly known as CAASE, on June 21-23, 2022, face-to-face, at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, Indiana! The NAFEMS Americas Regional Conference 2022 (NRC22 Americas) brought together the leading visionaries, developers, and practitioners of CAE-related technologies in an open forum, unlike any other, sharing experiences, discussing relevant trends, discovering common themes, and exploring future issues, including: What is the future for engineering analysis and simulation? Where will it lead us in the next decade? How can designers and engineers realize its full potential? What are the business, technological,...more

  6. The Impact of MBE on Simulation: From Embedded Software to Digital Twins – Leveraging System Simulation Models across the Product Lifecycle

This presentation was made at the NAFEMS Americas Seminar "Model-Based Engineering: What is it & How Will It Impact Engineering Simulation" held on the 1st of October 2019 in Columbus Ohio Resource Abstract Simulation is key in driving data-driven decision-making throughout the product design and development process, creating a virtual environment where engineers can optimize and make design trade-offs for cost and function. While simulation practices are well established in the design and development phase, physics-based models are rarely leveraged after a product is released. These physics-based simulation models provide insights into the operational conditions of the product, which cannot...more

  10. Improving Dynamic Modelling through better Joint Contact Conditions

Structures are built-up from components connected by joints. For a structure with a vibration duty there are many uncertainties: - Can static joint design be used for dynamic design? - What is the dynamic stiffness of a joint? - How much damping is provided by a joint? - How do you model the dynamics of joints in simulation codes? - Can joints be designed to assist structural dynamic? - How repeatable and predictable is the behaviour of a joint? - Can joints be simplified to reduce weight and complexity? Research into these issues has received growing attention and some answers are now available. This workshop introduced the problems, the current knowledge, some approaches and some solutions....more
