  1. My NAFEMS

's NAFEMS Welcome to the members' area of the NAFEMS website. From here, you can submit details of all of your companies news, events, software and consultancy services. You can also view your purchased downloads, update your personal details and password, and if you are a NAFEMS member, view details of your team and seminar credit allocation. As ever, your feedback is vital to the ongoing success of NAFEMS, so please do not hesitate to get in touch to suggest improvements, topics of interest, and changes you feel would be beneficial to the NAFEMS community. We also encourage positive feedback, to let us know what we are doing right!...more

  4. What to do About Global Warming: Modeling the Problem and Solutions

Abstract Using 0-D global physics models of global temperature dependence on carbon-dioxide emissions and atmospheric lifetime we demonstrate that eliminating carbon-dioxide emissions is insufficient to prevent exceeding the global warming ?tipping point? of 2 degrees Celsius. We examine other means to limit global warming including carbon dioxide sequestration and increasing earth?s albedo. The latter is shown to be potentially much more cost-effective in managing global warming, and its positive effects can be observed immediately....more

  5. Understanding a Generative Design Enabled Design Process Paradigm Shift

NAFEMS Americas and Digital Engineering (DE) teamed up (once again) to present CAASE, the (now Virtual) Conference on Advancing Analysis & Simulation in Engineering, on June 16-18, 2020! CAASE20 brought together the leading visionaries, developers, and practitioners of CAE-related technologies in an open forum, unlike any other, to share experiences, discuss relevant trends, discover common themes, and explore future issues, including: -What is the future for engineering analysis and simulation? -Where will it lead us in the next decade? -How can designers and engineers realize its full potential? What are the business, technological, and human enablers that will take past successful developments...more

  7. Mohr's Circle - Talking Shop with Tony Abbey

Mohr’s circle seems to be a very unpopular topic in structural mechanics courses! Some view it as: arcane, procedural, confusing, no use in practical engineering Why bother with Principal Stresses, Maximum shears etc. – Von Mises is king!! Maybe you don’t want to go back to graphs. In this webinar Tony Abbey talks about why Mohr’s circle is useful today to help understand: What are stress transformations? Why do them? Tony's trying to give Mohr a boost here!...more

  8. What are the Chances of the Ship Snapping? - Considerations When Using Probabilistic Analysis

In the April 2019 issue of NAFEMS BENCHMARK magazine, two challenge problems are presented. The first one consists of two normal distributions, producing an analytical (theoretical) solution. The second one contains several distributions (normal, uniform and lognormal), and therefore an exact solution is not available. At the NAFEMS World Congress 2019 these problems were discussed and a few solutions were presented. In this presentation these solutions and additional ones are discussed in combination with the theoretical background and the pitfalls of these methods....more
