  1. Application Information

Application Information This section contains all of the necessary information in order to apply for PSE (Professional Simulation Engineer) Certification . It is important that applicants understand the current requirements for becoming a certified Professional Simulation Engineer. Applicants should be confident that they meet these requirements before making an application. These guidance notes will clearly outline what is required and will provide useful examples for reference....more

  2. Validation of Numerical Analysis in Geotechnical Engineering

Validation of Numerical Analysis in Geotechnical Engineering A seminar for senior managers, technical reviewers and project managers in partnership with NAFEMS, the International Association of the Engineering Modelling, Analysis and Simulation Community. Overview Numerical analysis using finite element and finite difference methods has become a mainstream design tool within geotechnics in the last decade or so. This is due to the development of sophisticated yet accessible 2D and 3D computer programs that can realistically model the ground and adjacent structures. With increasing reliance placed on this type of complex modelling effective training in the use of this technology and effective...more

  3. BENCHmark April 2007

BENCHmark April 2007 A Truly Global Industry In this Issue: Embedding Flow Simulation in Mainstream Mechanical Design Knowledge Base 015 - Plasticity, Collapse and Fatigue Using CAE Tools to Apply Advanced Materials and Processes in Automotive Research NAFEMS World Congress 2007 Simulation of Glass Melting Processes at TNO Group A Conversation With.... Rodney Dreisbach Virtual Benchmarking Earlier this year, I had the privilege of travelling to India to visit a number of the companies there that are making extensive use of CAE. I was very intrigued about the visit – I had heard many stories about what is happening there and the tremendous growth in the use of engineering...more

  6. What to do About Global Warming: Modeling the Problem and Solutions

Abstract Using 0-D global physics models of global temperature dependence on carbon-dioxide emissions and atmospheric lifetime we demonstrate that eliminating carbon-dioxide emissions is insufficient to prevent exceeding the global warming ?tipping point? of 2 degrees Celsius. We examine other means to limit global warming including carbon dioxide sequestration and increasing earth?s albedo. The latter is shown to be potentially much more cost-effective in managing global warming, and its positive effects can be observed immediately....more

  7. Understanding a Generative Design Enabled Design Process Paradigm Shift

NAFEMS Americas and Digital Engineering (DE) teamed up (once again) to present CAASE, the (now Virtual) Conference on Advancing Analysis & Simulation in Engineering, on June 16-18, 2020! CAASE20 brought together the leading visionaries, developers, and practitioners of CAE-related technologies in an open forum, unlike any other, to share experiences, discuss relevant trends, discover common themes, and explore future issues, including: -What is the future for engineering analysis and simulation? -Where will it lead us in the next decade? -How can designers and engineers realize its full potential? What are the business, technological, and human enablers that will take past successful developments...more

  9. Mohr's Circle - Talking Shop with Tony Abbey

Mohr’s circle seems to be a very unpopular topic in structural mechanics courses! Some view it as: arcane, procedural, confusing, no use in practical engineering Why bother with Principal Stresses, Maximum shears etc. – Von Mises is king!! Maybe you don’t want to go back to graphs. In this webinar Tony Abbey talks about why Mohr’s circle is useful today to help understand: What are stress transformations? Why do them? Tony's trying to give Mohr a boost here!...more

  10. What are the Chances of the Ship Snapping? - Considerations When Using Probabilistic Analysis

In the April 2019 issue of NAFEMS BENCHMARK magazine, two challenge problems are presented. The first one consists of two normal distributions, producing an analytical (theoretical) solution. The second one contains several distributions (normal, uniform and lognormal), and therefore an exact solution is not available. At the NAFEMS World Congress 2019 these problems were discussed and a few solutions were presented. In this presentation these solutions and additional ones are discussed in combination with the theoretical background and the pitfalls of these methods....more
