  1. Dr. Dennis Nagy

Abstract Discussion: What are the Opportunities & Obstacles for More Engineering Simulation in Oil & Gas? Engineering simulation is being used more extensively now in oil and gas, but the industry still lags behind the traditional simulation industry leaders of aerospace and automotive. In this discussion, the panelists (consisting of the event presenters and event sponsors) will offer their expert opinions and insights into where simulation has had the greatest impact so far and what are the key obstacles (technical, cultural) to more widespread effective use of simulation in oil and gas. About the Speaker Dr. Dennis Nagy, NAFEMS Americas Steering Committee & Principal at Beyond CAE Dr....more

  2. The SPDM Overkill: Too Expensive, Too Difficult, Too much Overhead and no Added Value!?!

This presentation was made by E. Niederauer at the NAFEMS European Conferences, "Simulation Process and Data Management" & "Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) - Beyond the Solve" that were held in Munich, Germany on 2-3 December 2015....more

  3. What are the Chances of the Ship Snapping? - Considerations When Using Probabilistic Analysis

In the April 2019 issue of NAFEMS BENCHMARK magazine, two challenge problems are presented. The first one consists of two normal distributions, producing an analytical (theoretical) solution. The second one contains several distributions (normal, uniform and lognormal), and therefore an exact solution is not available. At the NAFEMS World Congress 2019 these problems were discussed and a few solutions were presented. In this presentation these solutions and additional ones are discussed in combination with the theoretical background and the pitfalls of these methods....more

  4. Multiphysics Today and in the Future

What is Multiphysics? In this panel session from the NAFEMS 2021 World congress members of the multiphysics working group will give a general guideline for a definition of the term multiphysics simulations. In addition the team will discuss topics including: Why do Multiphysics? Application Cases Challenges The Future...more

  5. New Developments in Physics Informed Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence

New Developments in Physics Informed Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence Over the past three years the field of Physics Informed Machine Learning (PIML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) has experienced a dramatic renaissance. New methods for integrating physics based principles into ML are being developed redefining what problems can be solved with PIML & AI. PIML & AI is revolutionizing applications such as predictive maintenance, electrification & autonomy, and even the discovery of new drugs to treat disease. This paper describes some of the emerging methods and trends shaping this exciting new field....more

  6. St Venant's Principle - Talking Shop with Tony Abbey

NAFEMS is talking shop with Tony Abbey on a range of topics relevant to, and suggested by, the engineering analysis community. Episode 1 - St Venant's Principle This principle is often quoted in FEA. It is a very generalized statement, but what does it mean and how can we use it in practice? Tony explores the background to the principle and discusses how it can be used in practical guidelines. Several examples are be shown in the presentation, then the session opened up for questions....more

  7. Understanding a Generative Design Enabled Design Process Paradigm Shift

NAFEMS Americas and Digital Engineering (DE) teamed up (once again) to present CAASE, the (now Virtual) Conference on Advancing Analysis & Simulation in Engineering, on June 16-18, 2020! CAASE20 brought together the leading visionaries, developers, and practitioners of CAE-related technologies in an open forum, unlike any other, to share experiences, discuss relevant trends, discover common themes, and explore future issues, including: -What is the future for engineering analysis and simulation? -Where will it lead us in the next decade? -How can designers and engineers realize its full potential? What are the business, technological, and human enablers that will take past successful developments...more

  9. FAQs

FAQs Are these courses instructor-led live sessions or pre-recorded sessions? NAFEMS e-learning classes provide live instructor-led sessions to allow attendees an opportunity to interact with the course instructor. Recordings of each session are also made available to all students afterwards. All NAFEMS e-Learning courses are accredited by NAFEMS and led by leading figures in the worldwide engineering analysis community. What is the method of delivery for course material? Each topic in the class is treated as a building block. The course instructor will provide interactive projects and will involve the students in the process via Q&A, email, the course discussion board and collaborative...more

  10. Future - Not Fantasy

Future - Not Fantasy Christoph Gümbel is widely regarded as one of the leading minds in digital prototyping and applied simulation methods for design and functional verification in the vehicle development process. He spent over 30 years with Porsche starting off as a software engineer, progressing to the role of head of CAE before becoming director of the virtual vehicle. He's now a consultant for the virtual development process and partner at Future Matters, one of Europe’s leading future research institutes. He spoke to NAFEMS’ David Quinn about why being a futurist is vital in today’s automotive industry....more
