Simulation Infrastructure & Deployment

The focus of this ASSESS Initiative theme is to investigate how compute infrastructure and deployment models influence the scalability, economics, and business impact of engineering simulation.

As organizations increasingly adopt cloud computing, AI-enabled workflows, GPU-accelerated computing, and globally connected engineering processes, infrastructure decisions are becoming strategic business considerations rather than purely IT decisions. Organizations must evaluate not only the volume of simulation activity, but also the changing nature of workloads, including physics-based simulation, machine learning, generative AI, and broader digital engineering workflows.

This theme will explore the trade-offs between on-premises, cloud, and hybrid deployment models, with particular emphasis on:

  • Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
  • Return on Investment (ROI)
  • Scalability and flexibility
  • Business value and operational efficiency
  • GPU and AI-related compute costs
  • Infrastructure strategies for simulation and AI convergence

As simulation and AI continue to converge, understanding how to optimize infrastructure investments while effectively managing compute resources and costs will become increasingly important.
