  1. ASSESS Congress 2016 - Confidence Theme

This Presentation, ASSESS Congress 2016 - Confidence Theme, is from 2016. NAFEMS & ASSESS members can view / download when logged in. The ASSESS Initiative is a broad reaching multi-industry initiative with a primary goal to facilitate a revolution of enablement that will vastly increase the availability and utility of Engineering Simulation, leading to significantly increased business benefits across the full spectrum of industries, applications and users. Since June 2022, ASSESS as been part of NAFEMS....more

  2. Simulation of ADAS Functions in Cutoff Situations

Abstract The laboratory of the Bay Zoltán Nonprofit Ltd. located at the ZalaZONE proving gound has the goal to test and develop Automated Driving and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems applications applying a Driver-in-the-Loop Simulator. In both topics we perform simulations and support the preparations of physical tests, further on we have our research and development topics. In our recent study we focus on to identify bottlenecks of the trending collision avoidance technology, which is one of the fastest growing ADAS feature field. Nowadays we have many different ADAS solutions which are working well on their own. Our main task now is to develop an intelligent autonomous driving algorythm...more

  3. Why Attend

NRC22 Americas "Why I Attended" The following statements were made by individuals who attended NRC Americas/CAASE in recent years. The only modifications made were to remove any identifying information (e.g., company or product names). This information was captured in the conference feedback form, and was not a required field, so the response to attendee ratio is not 1:1. Why Did I Attend? Organization Type 'Presentation of our work and networking.' Academia / Research 'Networking and Making Global Presence for Company' Academia / Research 'To become more involved in the CAE community.' End-User 'The main objective was to find better ways to implement CAE.' End-User ...more

  4. Incorporating Microstructure Prediction into Weld Modelling: The Challenges of Low Alloy Ferritic Steel Welds

This presentation was made at the NAFEMS UK Seminar "Welding Simlation - How Much Validation is Enough?" Resource Abstract Weld modelling – the prediction of weld residual stresses using finite element techniques – has been developed and applied in the UK civil nuclear industry over the last two decades. Its development and use were driven by the extensive residual-stress-driven creep cracking problems encountered in the UK Advanced Gas Cooled reactor fleet. This effort resulted in the R6 Weld Modelling Guidelines, originally issued in 2009, which presented a state of the art, formalised approach to using finite element techniques to predict residual stresses in austenitic steel welds, with...more

  5. What are the Chances of the Ship Snapping? - Considerations When Using Probabilistic Analysis

In the April 2019 issue of NAFEMS BENCHMARK magazine, two challenge problems are presented. The first one consists of two normal distributions, producing an analytical (theoretical) solution. The second one contains several distributions (normal, uniform and lognormal), and therefore an exact solution is not available. At the NAFEMS World Congress 2019 these problems were discussed and a few solutions were presented. In this presentation these solutions and additional ones are discussed in combination with the theoretical background and the pitfalls of these methods....more

  6. Model Calibration and Model Validation - What's the Difference?

Model Calibration and Model Validation - What's the Difference? A Discussion with the NAFEMS SGMWG 12-minute read NAFEMS SGMWG - March 22nd 2023 As part of an ongoing series, the NAFEMS Simulation Governance & Management Working Group present a discussion about the difference between model calibration and model validation. As well as reading the conversation here, you can watch the video on YouTube. The discussion was hosted by Gregory Westwater (GW, Emerson Automation Solutions) and William Oberkampf (WO, consultant), both members of the NAFEMS S imulation Governance & Management Working Group GW: Model calibration and model validation, how do you define each? And what's the distinction...more

  7. Verification & Validation – An Introduction

Verification & Validation – An Introduction 7-minute read NAFEMS SGMWG - August 26th 2021 In the first of a series, the NAFEMS Simulation Governance & Management Working Group hosted a discussion introducing the concept of Verification and Validation. As well as reading the conversation here, you can watch the video on YouTube, as well as listen to the audio on the NAFEMS Podcast. The discussion was hosted by Chris Rogers, Chair of the NAFEMS Simulation Governance & Management Working Group, alongside members of the group, William Oberkampf (WO), Gregory Westwater (GW), Keith Meintjes (KM), and Alexander Karl (AK). How would you define the terms ’Verification’ and Validation’? Q (GW)...more

  8. Simulation of Real World Events for ADAS - PCA Feature Validation

NAFEMS Americas hosted its biennial regional conference, formerly known as CAASE, on June 21-23, 2022, face-to-face, at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, Indiana! The NAFEMS Americas Regional Conference 2022 (NRC22 Americas) brought together the leading visionaries, developers, and practitioners of CAE-related technologies in an open forum, unlike any other, sharing experiences, discussing relevant trends, discovering common themes, and exploring future issues, including: What is the future for engineering analysis and simulation? Where will it lead us in the next decade? How can designers and engineers realize its full potential? What are the business, technological,...more

  9. Hardware Considerations for Efficient Finite Element Analysis

Hardware Considerations for Efficient Finite Element Analysis Overview In this webinar, we discussed what hardware configurations to pursue to get the most efficient solutions from your FEA tools. We examined various hardware components such as processors, RAM, GPUs, and hard drives and how they interact with your FEA databases and solvers. We also delved into various solution algorithms and how they are affected by your hardware setup. Finally, we explored different cluster solution options for even more capacity and speed beyond your workstation. Webinar Presentation (pdf) l Webinar Recording (WebEx) Note: The presentation and recording are only available to NAFEMS members. Back to...more

  10. How to Justify Increasing the use of Engineering Simulation in Your Company during and after COVID-19

NAFEMS Americas and Digital Engineering (DE) teamed up (once again) to present CAASE, the (now Virtual) Conference on Advancing Analysis & Simulation in Engineering, on June 16-18, 2020! CAASE20 brought together the leading visionaries, developers, and practitioners of CAE-related technologies in an open forum, unlike any other, to share experiences, discuss relevant trends, discover common themes, and explore future issues, including: -What is the future for engineering analysis and simulation? -Where will it lead us in the next decade? -How can designers and engineers realize its full potential?
