  1. ASSESS: Understanding a Generative Design Enabled Paradigm Shift

This Presentation, ASSESS: Understanding a Generative Design Enabled Paradigm Shift, is from 2020. NAFEMS & ASSESS members can view / download when logged in. The ASSESS Initiative is a broad reaching multi-industry initiative with a primary goal to facilitate a revolution of enablement that will vastly increase the availability and utility of Engineering Simulation, leading to significantly increased business benefits across the full spectrum of industries, applications and users. Since June 2022, ASSESS as been part of NAFEMS....more

  2. Promoting HPC for the Benefit of UK Industry

Presentation made by A. Jones at the NAFEMS UK Seminar "Improving High Performance Computing (HPC) Adoption in Engineering Simulation" that was held in Manchester, UK on the 10th of February 2016. Seminar Description In recent years, a new business cliche has emerged: "To out compute is to out compete". In essence, the use of high performance computers for engineering simulation can help speed up design turnaround times, reduce time to market and increase competitiveness. The purpose of this seminar was to help promote the adoption of high performance computing throughout the engineering supply chain, from independent consultants to SMEs and large firms....more

  3. Electrification in CAE

This presentation was made at the NAFEMS Americas Conference "Simulation in the Automotive Industry: Creating the Next Generation Vehicle" held on the 16-18 March 2021. The automotive engineering community is now confronting the largest technology transformation since its inception. The demand to manufacture cleaner, safer, and smarter vehicles, along with providing an overall enhanced driving and ride experience, has never been higher. As a result, engineering teams must discover, evaluate, and successfully implement leading-edge technology and methods to produce reliable, effective results. Hence, the challenges for automotive engineers are enormous and require a significant increase in the...more

  4. Using Digital Twins to Accelerate Product Development – A Beginners Guide

Abstract Digital Twins have predominantly been applied to predictive maintenance of high value, low downtime assets. However, realising their full benefit as part of the product development process remains unclear. The main challenge for simulation teams is not creating good models, but the establishment of a new workflow that can make use of connected product data. Indeed, creating a compelling case for a product to be connected in the first place, and provide meaningful data, can be a major hurdle. To overcome these challenges, a proof of concept is initially required to clearly demonstrate benefit to the business, and ultimately the customer. Simulation and product development teams are well...more

  6. Considerations for New System Design using Additive Manufacturing as a Technology Enabler

This presenatation was delivered at the NAFEMS UK Seminar "Design and Manufacturing of Additvely Manufactured Components" held on the 28th of September 2017. Additive Manufacturing (AM) offers many potential benefits over traditional manufacturing techniques. It enables the generation of complex geometries and lattice structures to make lighter components, can improve thermal performance through more flexible cooling design, avoids the need for expensive tooling for short production runs and may make mass customisation a reality as customers seek more personalised products. AM applications can been found in a wide range of industries, including Aerospace, Defence, Automotive, Sports and Medical....more
