  1. 2020 Conference on Advancing Analysis & Simulation in Engineering (CAASE20)

2020 Conference on Advancing Analysis & Simulation in Engineering (CAASE20) Missed the Live Virtual Conference? Not to worry. All of the conference presentations, with the exception of training courses, are still available on the virtual conference platform until mid-July 2020. During this time, we will be migrating all of the content over to the NAFEMS Resource Center to ensure NAFEMS members will have access to all of the excellent contributions delivered during this event. NAFEMS Americas and Digital Engineering (DE) teamed up ( once again ) to present CAASE, the ( now Virtual ) Conference on Advancing Analysis & Simulation in Engineering, on June 16-18, 2020! CAASE20 brought together...more

This presentation has been held at the NAFEMS ASSESS Summit 2024 , on the 5th and 6th of March, 2024....more

  3. What the Codes Say

What the Codes Say ... with respect to fatigue. The purpose of this section is not to try and conclude that any one code is better than another - rather, the goal is to provide diverse insight and understanding into DBA fatigue practice. This section discusses the following DBA standards and while the reader may decide to focus on a particular code of interest, it is recommended that the opportunity is taken to develop a breadth of understanding (to some extent) of all: PD5500 ASME VIII Div2 ASME III (brief mention) EN13445 Some other fatigue relevant standards and guidance, is also highlighted: BS 7608 BS 7910 In the Codes of Practice / DBA in Action section of the course, attention is...more

  4. Model-Based Enterprise: Achieving Lasting Value from MBD and MBE

Model-Based Enterprise: Achieving Lasting Value from MBD and MBE NAFEMS-INCOSE Systems Modeling & Simulation WG holds its 76th Community meeting on May 26, 2026 at 11am CT. Access the Zoom meeting hosted by INCOSE Welcome and Introduction – Peter Coleman, Chair SMSWG & Frank Popielas, Co-Chair SMSWG Model-Based Enterprise: Achieving Lasting Value from MBD and MBE – Bryan Fischer, President of Advantage MBE LLC Model-Based Definition (MBD), Model-Based Enterprise (MBE), and related model-based approaches are often approached from the point of view of how we work today. From this perspective, many approaches and implementations fall short of the mark and do not achieve the value that a new,...more

  5. Promoting HPC for the Benefit of UK Industry

Presentation made by A. Jones at the NAFEMS UK Seminar "Improving High Performance Computing (HPC) Adoption in Engineering Simulation" that was held in Manchester, UK on the 10th of February 2016. Seminar Description In recent years, a new business cliche has emerged: "To out compute is to out compete". In essence, the use of high performance computers for engineering simulation can help speed up design turnaround times, reduce time to market and increase competitiveness. The purpose of this seminar was to help promote the adoption of high performance computing throughout the engineering supply chain, from independent consultants to SMEs and large firms....more

  6. Electrification in CAE

This presentation was made at the NAFEMS Americas Conference "Simulation in the Automotive Industry: Creating the Next Generation Vehicle" held on the 16-18 March 2021. The automotive engineering community is now confronting the largest technology transformation since its inception. The demand to manufacture cleaner, safer, and smarter vehicles, along with providing an overall enhanced driving and ride experience, has never been higher. As a result, engineering teams must discover, evaluate, and successfully implement leading-edge technology and methods to produce reliable, effective results. Hence, the challenges for automotive engineers are enormous and require a significant increase in the...more

  7. One Step Closer to Reality with Multi-Body Dynamic Simulation

This presentation was made by D. Shin at the NAFEMS European Conference, 'Coupled MBS-FE Applications: From Classical Design to System Engineering' that was held in Turin, Italy on 20 October 2015....more

  8. Impact of a Strong AC Electromagnetic Field on a Conductor Mesh: Design Guidelines and Safety Assessment

Abstract To design installation close to high-power AC electromagnetic device, a prediction of the electromagnetic coupling may be mandatory. The present device is composed of different high current multi-turn coils located near the installation, a conductor mesh. At first, the interactions between the different coils are assessed. The Maxwell-Ampère equation is solved through the magnetic vector potential formulation. Thanks to this potential, the magnetic induction field is deduced together with the induced current in the coils. Using a superposition principle, it is possible to build the coupling matrix which describes the self-inductance of each coil and the mutual inductances linking the...more
