The growing adoption of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) presents both opportunities and challenges for the simulation community. As organizations strive for more integrated digital engineering workflows, Simulation Engineers are increasingly expected to align with MBSE practices—yet the terminology, methods, and objectives can differ significantly between the two domains. In this ASSESS Insight webinar , Alexander Busch, Rod Dreisbach, and Frank Popielas present a refined version of the talk originally delivered at the NAFEMS World Congress 2025: “ What Simulation Engineers Need to Know About MBSE ”. This updated presentation incorporates feedback from the live event and introduces enhanced...more
Physical Test Data for Simulation Engineers The NAFEMS Education and Training Working Group wishes to commission a new publication titled “Physical Test Data for Simulation Engineers". Intended Readership This will be a book aimed at simulation engineers to provide a better understanding of the accuracy, calibration, uncertainty and limitations of physical test data. The book will address laboratory material data needed in FE simulations and test data used to validate FE solutions. Content The following topics are suggested: Types of experimental errors Quantification of errors, precision and accuracy Measurement and propagation of uncertainties Simplifications in simulation models Sensitivity...more

Over the last decade the Additive Manufacturing process has attracted a high level of interest due to the potential that the process has to revolutionise the way engineering companies design products. As well as offering rapid cycle times from initial concept to finished product it also allows previously unmanufacturable designs to be produced. However, even with AM, it is not possible to just “print” any shape out of metal. Distortion and cracking are recurring issues. Process simulation has a key role to play in resolving these issues and optimising the process parameters. This document provides guidance for people wanting to predict residual stress and distortion of metal additive manufactured...more
Presentation made by B. Patel at the NAFEMS UK Regional Conference - Engineering Simulation: The Future Begins Today held in Telford, England on the 15th and 16th of June 2016....more
How do you get ready for 2030? You've got to start now: How simulation is changing and what you need to do to keep up 5-minute read Monica Schnitger - August 29th 2022 In the webinar ‘The Changing World of Simulation’ Monica Schnitger, founder, president, and principal analyst at Schnitger Corporation gives us the lay of the land in terms of where we are in the world of simulation and where it looks like we’re headed. The webinar is packed with insights and ideas from the industry expert. Delivered in her clear and concise style, it will give anyone interested in charting a way forward in the rapidly changing climate that simulation engineering finds itself in plenty to think about....more
Metal forming simulations are increasingly adopted by manufacturers to improve the quality and performance of products and processes while shortening development cycles so that these products can be brought to market earlier. Successful simulation of metal forming processes requires a range of input data about the geometry of the workpiece and tooling, the process forces and tooling motion and, above all, the characteristics of the workpiece material. The accuracy of the results depend on having a good understanding of this input data. In this webinar we introduce manufacturing process simulation methods for a range of metal forming operations and then review the material characterisation requirements...more
