Award for outstanding student work in the field of engineering simulation
The NAFEMS Eastern Europe Student Award recognises exceptional achievements in the field of engineering simulation among engineering students across the Eastern Europe region.
This prestigious award invites engineering students to showcase their innovative use of simulation technologies such as Finite Element Analysis, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Computational Electromagnetics, System Simulation and other numerical techniques used in engineering applications covered by the Technical Working Groups. By participating, students gain the opportunity to have their work evaluated by experts, receive valuable feedback, and compete for recognition at an international level.

Submission deadline: 30th of September 2026.
Prize
The winner will receive 500 EUR and an invite to the NAFEMS Eastern Europe Regional Conference in 2028 with the registration, travel and accommodation costs covered.
Rules and regulations
Eligibility
- The nomination is open to mechanical engineering students who submit and defend their Bachelor or Master Thesis between 30.09.2025 and 30.09.2026.
- Students studying at Universities in the NAFEMS Eastern Europe Region (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, North-Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia) can submit their work.
- The submitted work has to be an already submitted and defended Bachelor or Master thesis.
- Theses written in English and in the official langauges of the countries listed in Point 2 are eligible for submission
Rules
- The submitted work must contain a considerable extent use numerical simulation technologies in areas covered by the NAFEMS Technical Groups.
- Criteria for the assessment of the work are, among other aspects; the degree of novelty in the approach, quality and care of the documentation of the work, the significance and value of the project, etc.
- The nominee must be able to communicate with the committee in English, and may be required to attend an online interview.
- The work of the nominee will be primarily judged based on the uploaded Thesis (PDF) and English language Extended Abstract (PDF).
- Signed consent is to be uploaded from the university supervisor, that the project is not confidential, and the student has the University's and the industrial partner's support to enter into the competition.
- The decision related to the winner will be made by the members of the NAFEMS Eastern Europe Steering Committee.
