Focus on: Joints & Connections

As most structures involve some sort of jointing or connection, often running into many thousands, or even millions of connections in one individual body, the analyses involved can be among the most difficult an engineer can face. As you can imagine, there has been a significant amount of activity within NAFEMS around these issues, and we've collected some of the resulting information here.

Many of the resources below are available free for you to download, with others accessible exclusively to NAFEMS Memberse-library subscribers, or to buy directly from our website.

We hope you find this brief update useful. If you have any comments, or thoughts on future areas that you'd like to see us focus on in the future, please get in touch at focus@nafems.org

Modelling Adhesively Bonded JointsModelling Adhesively Bonded Joints

This extract from the NAFEMS Advanced Workbook of Examples summarises several aspects of the modelling of bonded joints, and is free to download below. You can also download the entire publication from the e-library, or buy the book.

Knowledge Base - Analysis of Fabricated Structures

In October 2003, NAFEMS began to publish a series of articles in benchmark magazine, aimed at covering a number of basic FEA principals in a readable and useful format. This “knowledge base” series continued to run over the next seven years, based on the principal that it is always useful to reinforce basic concepts and theories, no matter how advanced the user of the technology has become.

This short article on the analysis of fabricated structures, is free to download at the link below.

NAFEMS members have access to the full series here, and the book can be purchased here

Papers from the NAFEMS World Congress

The NAFEMS World Congress (NWC) is the only major international event dedicated to your community and your technology. Every aspect of analysis, modelling and simulation is addressed, covering numerous industries globally. There’s nothing quite like it.

We've made a selection of NWC papers on composites from previous events available to download below

NWC19 took place in Quebec City, Canada, in June 2019. Visit nafems.org/congress for full details.
