The 2027 Winter School on Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) Numerical Methods is a five-day intensive course covering the theoretical foundations, numerical formulation and practical implementation of SPH methods. The Winter School is jointly organised by the University of Parma and the University of Manchester.
The programme combines lectures on fundamental and advanced SPH topics with specialist seminars on current research and applications. The final day, Friday 22 January, will be dedicated to hands-on numerical activities using DualSPHysics, the open-source SPH software.
The Winter School is aimed at PhD students, postdoctoral and academic researchers, engineers working in industry, and others with a scientific or technical background who are interested in computational fluid dynamics and particle-based numerical methods. No previous knowledge of SPH is required.
The core teaching team includes Prof. Renato Vacondio (University of Parma), Prof. Benedict D. Rogers (University of Manchester), Dr. Georgios Fourtakas (University of Manchester), and Dr. Aaron English (Polytechnique Montréal). Additional specialist seminar speakers will be announced.
The programme comprises approximately 30 hours of lectures, specialist seminars and practical activities. Participants attending the course will be eligible for a Certificate of Attendance. The Winter School corresponds to 5 ECTS credits, with an optional final examination.
Registration is €500 for PhD students and €800 for other participants. Participation is limited to 50 attendees.
