benchmark October 2012 2013 NAFEMS World Congress - A world of Simulation

Last month saw the NAFEMS North American Conference take place in Herndon, Virginia. To say that the event was a success would be a massive understatement, Over 170 attendees joined us for two days of insightful presentations and workshops, as well as a vibrant and diverse exhibition area. We are delighted that the North American simulation community continues to support and get value from  NAFEMS through events such as this, and the conference has given us great confidence that our expanded events program over the coming months will be met with a similar level of engagement.

As part of our continued focus on delivering best value to the simulation community, and reaching out to you through the appropriate channels, we are launching a survey of the benchmark readership, to hear your thoughts on how best to deliver the magazine to you, and what content you want to see each quarter. The results of this survey will directly impact the direction of the magazine going forward. The results of this will be fed directly into the production and editorial process of the magazine, so please do contribute.

As the end of the year approaches (yes, it IS that time of year again) and the leaves begin to fall off the trees (in Scotland at least –although they get blown off by the howling winds rather than fall), it’s time for us to look forward to the next year and everything it will bring. As you can’t have failed to notice, we’re full-steam-ahead for the 2013 NAFEMS World Congress in June, and the call for papers deadline is hurtling towards us. We’ve had a great response so far, but there is always room and time for your to submit your abstract. Full details are on the centre pages of this issue.

Ok, so that’s the ‘hard sell’ over, but it reminds me of a conversation I was having in the office recently about benchmark and the place of the printed magazine in today’s media. Each quarter, I write 4-500 words here to introduce a magazine which has been put together by a small team over a period of weeks, and I found myself asking the question ‘does anyone actually read that part?’ Well, do you? Drop me a line at YES@nafems.org if you do, and let us know when and where you read it – first out the metaphorical hat will win an as-yet undetermined prize for their efforts.
