NAFEMS Announces Expansion into East Europe Region

The International Association for the Engineering Analysis Community opens regional office in Hungary.

HAMILTON, UK, December 9th 2019 – NAFEMS, the International Association for the Engineering Analysis, Modelling and Simulation Community, has announced the official opening of a new East Europe regional office.

Located in the Hungarian capital Budapest, the new office will be headed up by David Felhös and Márton Gróza as regional representatives.

My ambition is to shake up the regional engineering community a bit. I want to create know-how exchange channels within Central-Eastern Europe. The region has a large simulation community with good experts, I feel we deserve to give ourselves the opportunity to put ourselves on the map.”, said Felhös.

Since initial discussions in 2016, the region’s steering committee, supported by the NAFEMS UK team has put on regular events that have brought the engineering analysis community together.

“It has been a real pleasure to be involved with this new NAFEMS region. From our very first seminar in Budapest back in April 2017 to now, we have welcomed just short of 400 delegates and I am so proud of how far the team has come.”, commented Jo Davenport, NAFEMS UK Regional Representative.

Tim Morris, NAFEMS CEO, added “We are very excited to be expanding into the East Europe region. The wealth of engineering talent in the ten countries that presently comprise this region will be an invaluable addition to the NAFEMS community. We are looking forward to creating many more opportunities to engage with these engineers, and to build upon the foundation that has already been established through the hard work of the EESC (East Europe Steering Committee)”

Planning for a major NAFEMS conference in the region in 2020 is currently at the preliminary stage.

Felhös continued, We have ambitious plans. In 5 years, we plan to rapidly grow the membership in the region, continue to connect internationally recognised regional experts and create a communication platform among them within Central-Eastern Europe.”

NAFEMS expects that the new E.E Regional Office will be a hub for the engineering analysis community in the area, and encourages engineers in the region to get actively involved.

“We are grateful for all the work that has been done by David Felhös and the East Europe Steering Committee together with the team here at NAFEMS UK to get to this point. We would welcome more members into the steering committee to keep the momentum going and make this a thriving addition to the NAFEMS community.” Morris added.

The East Europe office is the 8th regional office that NAFEMS now has in operation around the globe. The region covers ten countries at present; Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania and Bulgaria.

The new office will be based at the headquarters of Bay Zoltán Nonprofit Ltd. for Applied Research and is being supported by the National Research, Development and Innovation Office of Hungary. This expansion has partly been made possible through a grant from the Hungarian government as part of the first phase of its Bay Zoltán National Research Network programme, for which NAFEMS is very grateful.
