ESQMS Focus Team

T​he ESQMS focus meet regularly to support updates to the flagship NAFEMS "Engineering Simulation Quality Management Standard" known as the ESQMS. This ESQMS relates to ISO 9001 for quality management of engineering simulation. It interprets the quality standard ISO 9001:2015 in the particular context of the engineering simulation process. It supplements but does not vary ISO 9001.This standard applies to all methods of engineering simulation computation, from simple hand-calculations to advanced computational calculations. The focus team are currently considering how the standard should accomodate uncertainty quantification.

T​he focus team is also working on an update to the ESQMS's companion document the "Engineering Simulation Quality Management Guidelines". The guidelines are intended to provide readers with an understanding of the basic concepts of ISO 9001 quality management in the context of engineering simulation. It should also provide enough information to enable a quality management system for engineering simulation to be planned and developed within the simulation organization.
