About the Webinar

An important part of standardisation procedures is to make available representative benchmark examples to the modelling and simulation community.

NAFEMS Manufacturing Process Simulation Working Group published an technical article in NAFEMS Benchmark Magazine of October 2024 describing a benchmark example that compared experimental measurements and numerical simulations of a powder bed fusion (PBF) thin structure.

Following that publication, TWI have carried out a detailed sensitivity analysis for a number of numerical parameters and options, for the same PBF component, that influence the modelling results and fidelity, using the inherent strain approach. The sensitivity analysis will help the modelling and simulation community to achieve a good balance between speed and accuracy by making suitable selections of numerical parameters and options including mesh refinement, type of element, boundary conditions as well as material and geometry assumptions. The results of the sensitivity analysis are conveniently shown in a comparison table and as a set of colourful contour plots.
